Tinnitus

This is not a condition but a symptom, suffers have the perception of noise in the ear or head. The noise is generated inside the body but occasionally other people can hear the noise coming from the person with tinnitus. Older people are more likely to develop tinnitus but younger people can experience the noises. The sounds heard by those with tinnitus often vary and may include, intermittent or continuous ringing, whistling, hissing or buzzing noises.

The symptoms may develop after a cold, head injury, damage to the hearing nerves in the ear, exposure to loud noise, excessive wax in the ear or a middle ear infection. Others find that taking certain medicines can trigger the tinnitus. Tinnitius can also develop or become worse through stress and anxiety. Depending on the cause of the tinnitus the treatment method will differ. A cure is very rare and treatments can only help people manage and cope with tinnitus. The symptoms may subside for a while and then reappear if stress or any other cause is experienced.
