Acne

This skin condition produces bacteria in the hair follicles on the skin creating an oily substance, which causes bad skin. Acne is most common on the face, arms, back and chest. The condition usually develops in teenage years and can continue into adulthood. It is not caused by poor hygiene but can be down to a number of factors, including increase in testosterone levels (both in boys and girls), genetic make-up and stress.

There are some very effective treatments available depending on the severity of the acne. Gels, creams and lotions applied directly to the skin can reduce acne, as can antibiotics.
